India is commemorating the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” the National Song, honoring the enduring legacy of its composer, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Written around 1875, the song emerged as one of the most influential expressions of Indian nationalism. Over the decades, it became a powerful symbol of patriotism and unity, inspiring countless freedom fighters during the struggle for independence. Its stirring verses instilled courage, strengthened the spirit of resistance, and came to represent the nation’s aspiration for freedom and self-rule.

To mark this historic milestone, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has launched a year-long nationwide commemorative campaign aimed at celebrating the song’s rich cultural and historical legacy. The initiative encourages citizens from all walks of life, with a special focus on students and young people, to reconnect with the ideals embodied in Vande Mataram. Through a range of participatory activities, digital engagements, and creative contributions, the campaign seeks to foster a deeper appreciation of the song’s role in India’s freedom movement while inspiring future generations to preserve and celebrate the country’s shared heritage and patriotic values.

You are cordially invited to be a part of the 150 Years of Vande Mataram commemorative celebration on 15 July 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall, Gaiety Theatre. Join us in paying tribute to this timeless symbol of patriotism and participate in the nationwide celebration of India’s rich cultural and national heritage. Your presence will make this occasion even more meaningful.
